Fabric Indecision--Help Me!

Most of the time I have no problem seeing a fabric, and knowing just what it should be. But sometimes I do get stumped. I need advice!

I recently bought this beautiful polyester knit from Mood (more here). It's opaque, medium-weight, and slinky like a poly jersey. Here's a photo of the fabric draped over me, for scale:

This fabric nicely fits my spring/summer color palette (pinks and blues) yet has interest to it due to the print. I only ordered a yard because I knew if I got more, I'd want to make a dress. Yet I rarely WEAR polyester knit dresses. A top? That's a different story.

So help me decide! A Renfrew (or is that too much FLORAL)? A tank top (perhaps too boring)? Maybe a tunic, like this:

What is this fabric saying to you?

  1. Love that fabric! I had a very similar fabric in both print, color and feel and used it to make a wrap top. Sewing Cake's Hummingbird wrap top. It worked perfectly. You can see mine and dozens of others on the Flickr group. https://www.flickr.com/photos/63723586@N08/8577947229/in/pool-2212099@N22/

  2. First!!

I like the tunic idea. Maybe a little longer so you can decide to wear with leggings/tights on chillier summer days/nights?

    1. If I got that route, the length will be determined by the fabric...a yard isn't much!

  3. I thought wrap dress when I first seen it until you crushed my dreams with only ordering one yard. ha ha! Now I'm thinking a wrap top would be super cute! I've made Cake's Pavlova wrap top. It was quick and easy. I would suggest lengthening the top though as it is short and is meant to be worn with high waisted pants.

    1. Haha sorry to burst your bubble! I knew if I ordered 2 yards that it would definitely end up a wrap dress, which would have been lovely. But I wouldn't wear it that often.

  4. I would try my hand at a whole bunch of styles of summer tops - like camisoles. halters, tanks
