Creative Blogging is a great introductory book for bloggers (or potential bloggers). Don't be intimidated by its thick size, there are lots of screen caps and diagrams to bulk it up.
A lot like sewing, blogging has been a self-taught sort of activity, so I appreciated a basic book to fill in the gaps I didn't know were even there! I wish I would have read this a few months ago, it might have saved me a lot of trial and error.
The book covers the three most common blog platforms, Blogger, WordPress, and Typepad. I use Blogger (obvs) so for the most part I skimmed over the parts that discussed the other sites. It's kind of like when you watch a sewing video and see someone else's machine; it's nice to see what's out there, but sometimes you just end up jealous!
It's hard to say which part I found the most helpful. There were individual tips and explanations that helped me and didn't fall into one particular category. If you're looking for help filling in the details you're missing, I think this book will do the trick. There is a lot of help with images, video, and widgets/gadgets (those fun things you see in blog sidebars).
One thing it won't do is teach you how to code. I learned a tiny, minuscule amount of code at the publishing company where I used to work, and I still use that knowledge today. I can't fault this book for giving only one chapter to this topic, since it surely can fill many, many books on its own.
Those of you who have your own blog, have you read any books on the subject? I'm having a hard time finding books that strike a nice balance between "what is a blog" and "how to do advanced coding". Any suggestions?
